Tsukiji is not only Japan’s biggest seafood market but also the world’s biggest one. While there are divisions that specialize in fruits and vegetables, Tsukiji’s main focus is on everything that lives in water. The core audiences are fish dealers and restaurateurs but everyday citizens also drop by to purchase their share of fish and seafood. One of the highlights for visitors are the 5am auctions - Seri - where all kinds of fish are sold in the blink of an eye. Visitors will also find several excellent sushi shops to finish their visit. Be warned that most of the action takes place very early in the morning, and most stores are closed in the afternoon. Also, the market has recently announced that it will limit tourist access to the tuna auctions, allowing entrance only between 5 and 6:15am.

  • TRY THE OCTOPUS BALLS!! I tried one by accident cause I was starving and about to pass away. The guys said something I couldn't understand when I asked him what it was, I shrugged my shoulders, paid him 400 yen for 6 little brown balls. They kinda look like doughnut holes, boy was I wrong.
