The Shinjuku Health Center offers free and anonymous HIV / AIDS tests twice a month, in addition to other STDs such as syphilis. Every Thursday between 1-2.30pm they have staff available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Thai (only twice a month) to conduct the tests and offer counseling to the foreign community. The number to talk with the counselors in a foreign language and make an appointment is 03-3369-7110. Otherwise, you can call the number listed below anytime for service in Japanese.

  • First of all this place is free. FREE! And anonymous. They test for HIV, Chlamydia and Syphilis. (Note: They DO NOT test for Gonorrhea) I was paired with a nurse who could speak perfect english.   • I found quite the opposite to Totis. There are two test clinics in Shinjuku - neither had English speaking staff and although the Japanese staff tried very hard to accommodate me, communication was a huge barrier.   • I had the courage to visit the center. It was a little busy, and saw many foreigners there. Everyone took a number and received a number. The counselors were foreigners, and the interview simple.
