Compared to New York, London, or Paris, an innovative cut by one of Tokyo's most sought-after stylists is still affordable. Aki Watanabe the owner of Watanabe Hair Dressing was trained in London, speaks prefect English. Everyone from Paul Smith and architect Paul Tange to politician Yoko Tajima and Massive Attack have had their hair done here.

  • My wife and I went to Watanabe for a hair cut. Chie was our stylist and she was just great, really just great. She spoke perfect English and was very careful in listening to what we asked her to do. She was attentive, which is actually pretty rare back home. My wife was very very happy with her new hair cut and color and told me that she could rarely meet such a stylist even back home. We are very... Read More

  • i am japanese (but mostly raised abroad). i have high standards - hell i've hung out with pretty much the whole hi-profule japanese expat crew, most of all ia. so watanabe hair had some pretty big standards to live up to. and they were alright, i suppose. there are too many uptight-looking foreigners in there who ruin the whole atmosphere. it's a salon people - relax. either way, i won't be co... Read More

  • I got a cut and a straight perm at watanabe from Chie. She was very professional and helped me out even though I didn't know what style I wanted, same for my friend in the next chair. Don't be afraid of the language barrier here, Chie's English is perfect and you can tell her exactly what you need. Coming to a Japanese hair salon is a real experience because you get great service, including a back... Read More

  • Getting a hair cut at Watanabe is getting a hair cut plus a massage, all in one. I had never had such a long shampoo session, but it was good! At some point during my second shampoo I realized that they were not washing my hair anymore but rather massaging my scalp for a good 7-9 minutes, and I enjoyed every moment of it. After the shampoo, the massage continued on the chair with a nice shoulder,... Read More
