Established 1702, Rikugien Garden stretches over 88,000m2 with ponds, fields, fresh-cut bushes, and timbered diciduous trees balanced in perfect harmony. A beautiful view of a pond by the cape is available as well as a scenic overlook from the top of a hill that allows visitors to see the entire garden in all its glory. (No pets allowed)

  • I visited the Rikugien Gardens for the special opening during the cherry blossoms. The gardens were kept open until 9:00pm for two nights on the weekend. I arrived about 8:00pm, knowing that I must enter before 8:30pm or I couldn't go in. Unfortunately, there was a huge several blocks long line.   • While Rikugi-en garden doesn't completely filter out city noises, it's still a nice place for a stroll. Of course, the large pond in the middle of the garden is stunning, but I was impressed with the garden's smaller features. Takimi-no-chaya was a particularly nice spot. The structure was originally a tea house, but now it's a nice place to sit and relax. A small stream runs next to the building.... Read More
