OK, but watch out for the Turks in the front room. They're there most nights and will steal your girlfriend right in front of you. They'll also forbid you from talking to any girl they have spoken to in the last 5 years who there too. They don't drink much as they're Muslim and the staff are pretty scared of them. I've never seen them fight as I think they're too smart too get arrested here- prob have no visa. The back room is usually fine but they'll send scouts in to look for girls and you'll have to walk by their area to get to the bathrooms.
Had a really good time here and plan on coming back in the future. The drinks are alot cheaper than some places I was running into. (1500 Y for a rum and coke, wtf?!) Good atmosphere and met some cool people and the place had a good vibe to it. Definitely recommend!
The Hub is home to some of my best times here in Japan... The food is great (i am addicted to the lamb kabobs), and for 1000Y you can get a liter beer... If you think you are an unbeatable drinker and have the tolerence of a pirate then try the Guantlet... Bring only 10000Y and no credit cards...
I wandered into Hub on a Saturday night, and I was not disappointed. We were able to snag a table, which is sometimes a difficult feat. The mixed drinks were all excellent, and while a tad expensive (630 Yen each), they were well worth it. The Hub does actually give you the impression of being an English pub--probably because of the number of foreigners there, coupled with the soccer channel in the background and the smokey atmosphere. Don't go with the expectation of being hit on; groups here do not seem to mingle. Still, a solid choice for a bar. Best part--there isn't a table charge. Worst part--it closes pretty early.
The idea of a chain of bars meant to feel like an English pub sounds a bit tacky, but I think Hub accomplishes what it attempts to do. With a decent beer selection, a whole food menu and the makings for most other cocktails, Hub is a great meeting place. It draws mostly a young foreign crowd but it is also frequented by Japanese. During the week it's pretty tame, but it gets quite crowded on the weekends. Smoking is permitted.
