  • The view up there at night is spectacular. This restaurant is home to some really good food, an excellent selection of mixed beverages, wines and whiskies, and has excellent service. If you can't afford to enjoy the exquisite food, there is a bar right next to the restaurant which features live bands and piano players.

  • If you've seen the movie “Lost in translation,” then you'll have some idea of the stunning location of the New York Bar at the Shinjuku Park Hyatt Hotel. Located on the 52nd floor, I just couldn't stop looking out the window and trying to find known spots in the Tokyo skyline.

The New York Bar's main pull is its constantly rotating roster of jazz artists that take the stage. This is a place to sit back, enjoy a premium cocktail, take in the view and let the jazz smooth your stress away.

The drink list covers a range of premium whiskeys, cognac and brandies, together with what they advertise as the largest collection of American wine in Japan. The bartenders are also crafted in their skills and created a list of original cocktails that looks very interesting. To give it a try, we ordered “Torch,” (1700 yen) which was a mixture of pisco (a Peruvian/Chilean grape brandy), passion fruit puree, and a third liqueur that I couldn't identify. The martini was absolutely delicious and I wish I could have sipped it a bit longer. We also ordered Maker's Mark bourbon (1600 yen), neat, and it was correctly presented with a glass of water to go with it.

The bar features a light menu with items like French fries cooked in duck fat (if you've never had this, it's amazing!), cheese platters, light food items, pizza, and what is possibly the most expensive burger I've ever seen at 6400 yen.

This bar is one of Tokyo's hottest spots, so bring people to impress. The view is amazing, the music is a perfect backdrop and the drinks will keep on flowing. Having said that, this is definitely on the pricey side of life, so be careful with what you order if you don't want to end up reaching for multiple credit cards to settle the bill.
