  • Forget everything you know about burger joints in Tokyo, for they all bow in reverence to Home Works. Aside from their amazing curly fries, fantastic onion rings, and decently priced beer, they have an amazing menu of specialty burgers. And, for the proverbial cherry on top...they deliver. For the patron a little sick of burgers of any description, they have a good selection of tasty sandwiches, and great bar-style snack foods, such as hot wings and a fried sampler plate. This restaurant is an absolute must.

  • I decided to take the family here on the written reviews and we were pretty happy when the fries and shake came as both were done absolutely right. The problem was with the burgers. They taste like they're made out of paste with no seasoning. I can't believe people actually like them. Seriously - you have a better chance of getting real beef at McDonalds.

  • Homeworks recently closed down to refurbish their home location giving way to a newer and welcoming environment for their burgers and sandwiches. This restaurant knows what it wants to do and does it somewhat right; all you'll find here are multiple variations on a burger and some other sandwiches.

I went for their famous avocado burger (1200 yen for the regular size), which featured a big patty, and some tomatoes, lettuce and tartare sauce in addition to the avocado. In a different visit I had the mushroom burger (1100 yen for the regular size), Japanese style, which oddly enough meant that the mushrooms were sauteed in garlic butter. The patties are big and beefy, while the whole wheat bread was soft and chewy. My main complaint however is that they don't seem to add salt to their burgers. On both visits I had to salt them myself.

This restaurant definitely has the feel of an upscale burger chain, and the products are of above-average quality. Nonetheless, I still feel that a burger at MOS is similar in taste (plus some of the toppings are organic) and about half the price. Given the location in the exclusive Hiroo neighborhood, Homeworks is a place in which to watch people and be seen, but you can get better value for a burger somewhere else.

  • If you are missing good American cooking, don’t go to McDonald’s, but Homework’s instead. When I first went in, I was skeptical as to whether or not it would be able to compare to American burger shops, but after seeing my food, I lost my skepticism. The atmosphere was really relaxed and it seemed to be the place where some foreigners met their Japanese friends. Homework’s reminded me a little bit of a small town restaurant in America. The menu was both in English and Japanese which was quite helpful and the options were not Japanese at all. The bun was toasted and added flavor to the burger which was pretty good. I had been deprived of good American food for a while so my burger vanished quickly. The fries were not terrific but they complemented the burger well. I think this might be the best burger you will be able to get in Japan, but Americans are still king when it comes to burgers.
