My fiance and I came to Zest on Valetine's Day night. I busted up laughing as soon as I entered because the decor is SO kitsch and trying so hard to be like a Tex-Mex steak house, think cow skulls, waitresses in cowboy hats, and neon Budweiser signs on the walls. We had to wait a while to be seated but the waitress set up a makeshift table with chips and salsa and took our drink orders. When we were finally seated, FH got the steak and I ordered the burrito, and we split some chicken tacos. The food is not authentic but the boy loved his steak and I thought my burrito was OK. We'd come back again for the familiarity of Coronas, chips + salsa, and our hilarious waitress. Total for the evening: 7,500 yen.
EDIT: Came back here on September 30, 2009 for a friend's birthday. NO complimentary chips+salsa, burritos, or fajitas anymore. Our drinks came after our meals and service was generally slow. Head to El Torrito (helloooo chips+salsa), as the menu here is boring (really, what kind of texmex place doesn't have burritos?) and service is too slow to be any kind of fun. I got the nachos which were alright I guess, I felt bad for my friend who ordered enchiladas which were tiny tiny tiny!
If you are looking for wings, this is the place. the extra hot is pretty spicy, comparable to the "wild" flavor at buffalo wild wings. keep in mind that one "piece" is actually half of a wing. They cut the wings in half, and that's how they serve them up. i ended up getting 30 pieces, but it was well worth it. also, all you can drink coke for 450 yen, not a bad deal when you are craving some buffalo wings and need to wash it down with like 5 refills of coke.
I haven't tried any of their other food, so I cannot comment on that, but I give their wings 5 stars. :)
Worst Food In Tokyo!... Stay Away! ...Fun For Your lives!
Without a doubt, it was my worst meal ever in Tokyo. Even McDonald's would have been an improvement. I could not disagree more with the other reviews. Were they whisked away into another dimension where Zest was actually a decent place to eat? I have no idea.
The atmosphere was cute and novel at first, but then I heard the music from hell itself: a hyper-disco-Disney song sung in English by a Japanese whose English is so awful, although I recognized the badly re-done classic Disney song, I couldn't understand a word. But no, the horror didn't end there, they played and replayed a whole album full of such horrors!
Then the horror really began, the food arrived! The portions were minuscule, there was a layer of grease on top of the enchilada dish that was so pure, it looked like 5 cm of water on top of the entire dish. I kid you not. There was no taste save for the taste of grease. I always finish my food, but that was impossible. On the other hand, my friend's taco rice dish looked delicious, but had no taste, not even a grease taste!
The waitress was also incredibly rude. I'd never had such bad service, such bad food, such a bad atmosphere as I had with Zest. Surely, if hell exists, Zest is there.
The servings are decently sized for Tokyo, the waiters have flair and the place gets pretty busy. I've been to the Zest restaurants in Ebisu, Shibuya and Roppongi, and the one in Ebisu seems to be the best. I'd recommend going there in the summer for the roof top outdoor dining experience. Order wings, and they'll come shake them in sauce right at your table!
Located close to NHK and the Shibuya ward office, this American cowboy-themed restaurant just doesn't compare to the other outlet in Roppongi.
Upon entry, one is given the sense of arriving into a western saloon with waiters in 1800's wild west attire. Feels fun and grabs the essence and spirit of the rugged U.S. southwest region.
We ordered a burger (700yen) which is served with fries and homemade pickle (for some reason I got a quail egg instead) and a Cobb salad (800yen) which includes soup and unlimited drink bar refills. My burger was made by a man presumably from south Asia, and was cold and lacking any reasonable flavor. However, I remember the Roppongi outlet (near Legends Sports Bar) made my freshly made burger with amazing flavor and taste.
Overall, we will forget about this outlet and make another visit to the Roppongi outlet if we are ever in the neighborhood again.
