Seriously, I'm a bagel aficionado and I need my weekly bagel intake, so when I came to Tokyo for a few weeks I was starting to get bagel-withdrawal. Luckly walking through the Ikebukuro neighborhood I just ran into the place.
Seriously, their combinations of foods are awesome. I highly recommend the avocado and Shrimp sandwich. I will never forget it.
I LOVE bagel & bagel!!! You simply must try the "everything" bagel...it has, as you may have guessed, everything on it and in it. Fabulous toasted with plain cream cheese. And the wheat bagels with the sweet basil cream cheese are awesome. Probably the best thing about this place is that they dont' stop at just making different flavored bagels - the cream cheese offers a delightful variety as well. You can also buy extra cream cheese and take it home so you can actually have a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast the next morning (I actually go out of my way to find one of these places since there are none near my apartment).
Oh, and remember, the sandwiches are made in advance...nothing made in advance is ever as tasty as the freshly made...
I recently bought a pre-packaged bagel sandwich, which seemed like a good idea at the moment. Half of the bagel was filled with cream cheese and smoked salmon, while the other was filled with chicken and one piece of lettuce. The side with cream cheese and smoked salmon was a little soggy, and I was not impressed with the quality of the smoked salmon. The chicken side was alright, but just alright. Nothing special, but not particularly good.
These are some of my favorite bagels. I eat at this Bagel & Bagel store and one other closer to school about 4 times a week. It's a nice fast lunch or snack. They have a wide variety (at the Ikebukuro store) of toppings that you can put on a wider variety of bagels. They also have a menu of original sandwiches. My favorites for snacking: Volcano Bagel with plain cream cheese or Brown sugar bagel with banana cream cheese. My favorite sandwich is the smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich. It also has onions and capers in!
Bagel & Bagel advertises New York style carbs. While it falls short of the high standards it has set for itself, it does sell some pretty decent bagels. My favorite was the Volcano Bagel comprised of extra cheesy goodness. Other options include Brown Sugar, Cocoa & White Chocolate, and Maple Walnuts.
The shop is pretty well-sized for the crowded east Ikebukuro area, though certainly not huge by any standards. Something else I saw that I might try in the future were its cheesecake sticks.
