Established in 1923, Fukinuki offers Hitsumabushi, or Nagoya style unadon, which is a rarity in Tokyo. Other menu items such as unagi iri tamago yaki are also well reputed. The inviting interior is made mostly of wood. The tables are suitable for families, though Fukinuki is also good for dates since the night view of Shinjuku can be seen clearly.

The fish is cooked wonderfully; it melts as soon as it touches your mouth and the texture is almost like butter, but fishy butter. We ordered the set unagi-don (1600 yen) that also comes with pickles and soup. The soup was quite interesting in its own right. There was an ingredient I ... Read More

  • Fukinuki: Akasaka

  • Akasaka is overflowing with business-oriented restaurants - quick turnaround times, but high quality food. Fukinuki specializes in unajyu - unagi over rice serves in traditional tableware. I ordered a 1,500yen lunch set which included miso soup and a garnish - just enough to fill me up. The unagi was good, but not great. I might go to this place if I worked in Akasaka, but I certainly wouldn't go ... Read More
