Awesome place. I’ve been to Buri a few times now, and am looking forward to many more visits. The staff is funny and makes you feel welcome, the sake is good, and the food is tasty. The only thing I could say is that after a couple of hours, you wish you had a chair (it’s a standing bar) because I don’t want to leave just yet.
Buri specializes in one-cup sake from all over Japan. I’m glad the staff is knowledgeable because the menu is a hard read if you don’t read a lot of kanji, and even then, it doesn’t mean much unless you know the brands. I usually just let them pick for me, and the results have been excellent. You can get the sake warm, from the cooler, or from the freezer turned into slush, which is great in summer. (All cups cost 650 yen)
The yakitori (about 200 yen per stick), karage (600 yen) and other dishes we’ve tried have been consistent, but are not reinventing the wheel (about 600 yen per dish). The potatoes with garlic and anchovies are particularly good.
There’s a good atmosphere at Buri...you have to stand really close to other people so it’s really easy to start conversations, and the staff is so upbeat they keep the energy high. Definitely a good find!
