Gompachi: Ginza 権八 Izakaya / Ginza

Gonpachi Ginza is located in a building populated with other sophisticated restaurants, and it's a branch of Gonpachi Roppongi. This izakaya is often featured in foreign guide books. Although the hype may be a bit overblown, the interior looks like the Hollywood rendition of a traditional Japanese scene. Gonpachi is very popular with foreign residents.

  • I was just here on a Thursday night with a bunch of girlfriends (8). I can definitely say it is good for groups. We had a great time. Service was good, food was excellent. They are known for their soba so I ordered some and it was good. We ended up ordering lots of drinks and lots of plates to share. I don't know if it was because we were girls or what, but we ate and drank to our fill and the bil... Read More

  • Even though Gompachi(somewhat accurately) comes off as a bit of a tourist trap in the wake of its "Kill Bill" fame, it's excellent food definitely worth the trip.

  • I ate here once because of the hype around the movie Kill Bill. I'd have to say, despite the hype, it was really good! The food was delicious, though I couldn't identify half of what I was eating. Thankfully I had someone with me who did. At the time I don't think the menus were in English. Just sitting in the place is lovely. The layout is large and spacious, plus you can see the cooks from... Read More

  • great soba, good/friendly service, good yakitori too. no sushi for lunch, which i was sad to find out. the yuzu mojitos are great (but not much alcohol in them). also, good view from this restaurant if you are lucky enough to get a window seat!

  • Wow, this place holds up to its reputation. From the minute you walk in the door you are welcomed by all the staff on sight. The traditional japanese restaurant broken up in to two sides, one for yakitori type dishes and the other for sushi. The food is great and most of the staff speak fluent english. The thing i loved the most is the atmosphere of the place which topped off my experience and lef... Read More

  • This is a great place to have a party. The place is big, busy and fun. When I went, it was for a set course with nearly 40 other people, and there were so many little plates and bowls on the table with various types of hot and cold food, we could barely find the space to keep our pitchers of beer. The food was good, the place is comfortable, although it is a little far from the nearest train st... Read More

  • The sushi was delicious. Not too crowded but then again I went really late on a saturday night. Great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

  • Food is decent, drinks are generous. Only fault I find is that it takes forever to get a seat if you don't have a reservation and even if you do it might take you awhile to get a seat. Lots of foreigners, extremely loud but overall great place to take visitors.

  • I've always been told to give this place a try. Well, tonight I finally discovered for myself why it's so highly recommended. CLSA hosted a party here tonight as part of their Japan investors conference. According to our guide, Gompachi has played host to George W. Bush (big whoopie dee doo, right?) and ex-Citigroup Chairman Sandy Weill. Also, the restaurant was recreated in China for the ... Read More

  • This is a huge restaurant... even then on weekends the waiting time without reservation is upwards of an hour! its pretty easy to locate - at the corner of a major street junction and about 200 to 300m walk from Roppongi station exit 2 being the nearest and on the same side as the restaurant. there are private rooms as well as tables for 4 to 6 on the upper floors and counter seats on the first fl... Read More

  • Fun, loud, delicious, busy. Try the soba, made daily on site. I had chilled tomato in soup stock, beef short ribs, soba, bacon-wrapped asparagus, and chocolate cake with a sesame wafer. All high quality ingredients, prepared in an open kitchen. I've visited three times and always come away happy.

  • A great place to take visitors. The food is good and the interior is nothing like you've seen before. Fridays and saturdays are busy so make sure you book otherwise you'll be waiting around for hours.

  • There is a sushi restaurant behind the huge kabob section that I was really impressed with. The wide glass window faces the rooftop garden. Very zen and simple. I like how it's like a little hideaway from Shibuya, a secret hideout behind the bustling kabob portion of the restaurant...

  • Surrounded by traditional Japanese decor, Gompachi is a cozy spot in the heart of Ropongi. Customers can enjoy traditional Japanese yakitori style dishes with a chilled beer or sake of choice while watching the friendly kitchen staff in action. Other drinks are also available. Gompachi has a pretty extensive drink menu aside from the food menu. Their special fried shrimp ball is a must have; eve... Read More

  • Most people I know like Gonpachi but for some reason I didn't. The best part of the evening for me was the elevator ride to the 14th floor of the space tower where the Shibuya branch of this global chain is located. I think my Gonpachi visit started with the left foot because I expected the restaurant to feature an amazing view of Shibuya. Instead, the outside rim is populated with private party... Read More
