  • cheap chain but yummy and "apparently" healthy

  • For the price, this place is just great. Fried oysters, a bowl of miso soup and rice with a beer for 12 bucks! wow!

  • Good food, but lacking in atmosphere

  • This is the second Ootoya I've ever gone to. Like all other Ootoyas, the menu items offer a wide variety to choose from at a great price, so no arguments there. You order your food at the front of the restaurant before the staff seat you, so it's good to have a dish in mind before you step down into this Ootoya - there is a menu display at the top of the stairs before you enter. While the foo... Read More

  • I went there on a Thursday for lunch and found it to be a great place for my first meal out in Japan. They have a picture menu and you order and pay at the counter, then sit down and wait for the waitstaff to bring your food (which takes longer than a café would). The waitstaff are very nice and friendly, and the atmosphere is quiet and nice, conducive to making conversation with your dining part... Read More

  • I've gone to this Ootoya once, and I'll never come back again. The menu items, as with all other Ootoyas, are set by the Head Office, and are nicely displayed outside, which lured my BF and I inside. But the standard of the food rises and falls according to the restaurants themselves. In that regard, this Ootoya sucks. It was so unbelievably crowded that it was impossible to enjoy the food, wh... Read More

  • I really like Otoya and I decided to stop in this one. The location is really nice and easy to find just near the west exit of Ikebukuro Station. Outside the restaurant they have a display case of the food as plastic to make to really easy to decide what you want. Everything was pretty smooth until the food came. Unfortunately, they messed up the orders and brought different dishes. I showed ... Read More

  • Otoya is a tradition Japanese tei-shoku (meal set) with a healthy twist: all items are conveniently tagged with a calorie count, and overly heavy or fatty sauces aren't used. The food was really delicious - I spent less than 800 yen and selected a chicken rice bowl from the picture menu (there's no English, the servers don't speak English, but it's super easy to point to things). The rice bowl cam... Read More

  • Ootaya is a teishoku restaurant that defines mediocrity. Everything about this restaurant seems to be as normal as possible. The menu has all different sorts of food, that’s what defines a teishoku, for a very reasonable price. The menu was entirely in Japanese and they did not speak any English, but there were pictures on the menu so it was easy to order. The only thing that is different from n... Read More
