Since 1933, Fonda Dela Madrugada has been transporting its customers away from Tokyo and straight to Mexico City. All of the restaurant's furniture and tiles have been imported directly from Mexico, and all of the staff are Mexicans. At dinner, the trio "Mariacchi" serenade diners to live Latin music. The food recreates authentic Mexican tastes, and the portions are plentiful... actually too much for two people, so it's best to go with a larger group and have a party.

  • Excellent!! Im Mexican born and raised in Los Angeles, both parents from Mexico. This doesn't beat Moms cooking, but this IS Authentic Mexican food! Yeah it might be more pricier than some other Mexican restaurants in Japan, But this is SOOO worth it! we tried the Ceviche, the Carnitas, the Carne Asada and the Enchiladas. All were FRESH and we wish we had more. I do have to warn you though, for my... Read More

  • Mariachi in Tokyo-- who knew!? Although a bit pricey- this place is well worth it. The food is the most authentic I have tried in Japan. Great Margaritas!

  • I'm from So Cal, so I've pretty much been raised on Mexican food. The atmosphere is great. The food is pretty good... but.it's.expensive. But if you're jonesing for a Mexican food fix, it'll get the job done. I probably won't go back, because of the price, It's a little more than I would like to spend on a dinner (I think we paid around 4000-5000yen each for the set dinner and a pitcher of be... Read More

  • I'm from Arizona, and I was really craving Mexican food when I stumbled across this place. Every step down the stairs was like getting a step closer to Mexico, with its delicious and tantalizing smells the faint strains of Mexican music. The restaurant has character. Although it was expensive for the average college student's budget, its wide selection of food and alcoholic beverages were tota... Read More

  • There are only 2 mexican restaraunts in the Tokyo area that are even worth mention, and this is one of them. But it's not the food that stands out as much as the atmosphere. This restaraunt is full to the brim with charm. Whether this is by any measure a close approximation of what a moody restaraunt looks like in Mexico, I leave that to the Mexicans to decide. However, if you'll feel as if yo... Read More

  • Hi All, On Friday a surprise b/day party was organised for me here and I must say that besides the Musicians who were very entertaining and made a great effort to get all of the group dancing,I was very disappointed with this restaurant. First of all the food portions for my group were very small and the selection for a "party menu" was very limited-to say the least!!!!to add to this the 1 1/2 h... Read More

  • Possibly the most authentic Mexican food in Tokyo (and believe me, I've been searching) and for that I give it 5 stars. The boy and I came here for our 1 year anniversary and it was very romantic on a Monday night. We were sent to a smaller room where it was just us and candlelight for a while. The boy got carne asada and I got fajitas. It was his first taste of Mexican food (being from England an... Read More

  • The best Mexican which I've had in Tokyo. The restaurant is intimate and dark. The food is superb. The mariachi band is a plus. If you have a hankering for Mexican food then this is the place to come

  • this restaurant is hot, and have the feel of a street restaurant in Mexico. there are two floors to the restaurant, and both has large room. every meal is a bit spicy, and good for beer.you can enjoy the authentic Mexican flavors with live Latin music. the relaxing atmosphere is perfect for a dinner with groups of friends. it takes about 10 minutes from Harajuku station to the restaurant by w... Read More

  • Fonda De La Madrugada is a great place to satiate a deep longing for real Mexican food. At least, it's probably as close as you're going to come in Japan. From the outside it's kind of small and uneventful looking. A small staircase winds down several stories to an underground Mexican paradise. Old movies were playing soundlessly on a screen on the wall, which lent a really nice ambiance to the r... Read More

  • Though, my Mexican friend said the food is not "authentic," who cares? It's authentic enough for me. I love my experience here. The food is well beyond the generic Americanized Mexican food you get in chain eateries and the portions are plentiful. If you are looking for decent Mexican food you’re used to getting in the States, this would be the few places in Tokyo you might like. You feel lik... Read More
