For the same price, I'd much rather eat less for a better eating experience. Nothing was overly bad, but nothing stood out either. Rather than using sushi rice, I think they just used regular rice so the taste was much plainer. Though they did have some more original items such as americanized rolls and asparagus cones.
But, unless your super hungry and feeling like sushi, I would not recommend this place. And even if you were super hungry, I'm not sure you'd opt to wait in line for a seat. The first time I tried to visit this restaurant I gave up since the line was very long during dinner time. The second time, I went earlier and still had to wait 10 minutes or so.
Tsukiji Tama sushi delivered the extremes along a continuum of delicious sushi. Some of the items were among the best we had had in a long time, while others were forgettable. Among the best: their tuna and the sea urchin. The forgettable: the salmon.
We oredered two set meals: a “nigiri” set (1757 yen) that came with nine pieces, and a “ladies set” (1890 yen) that included seven pieces and a roll. Both sets came with a chawamushi and miso soup.
I guess the joke was too easy to let it pass, but of course the chef teased me for ordering the ladies set. When it arrived, I realized that the pieces were smaller than those of the nigiri set, and I guess the defining feature for why this is intended for women is because there was avocado in the roll. I still don't understand why avocado is considered women's food, but I had to endure some teasing to indulge in the buttery fruit.
I'm not a huge fan of chawamushi (egg custard soup) but this one was pretty tasty. The miso soup wasn't as remarkable, but we were here for the sushi, and with the exception of the salmon, it was all top-notch. I would heartily recommend dining here.
The room sits on the 14th floor of the Takashimaya department store. The view from the window seats is quite nice and could make for a romantic spot. Dama sushi also offers an all-you-can-eat meal plan that changes in price depending on gender, but will come to around 5,000 yen per person.
