Tinun: Shibuya ティーヌン Thai / Shibuya

Tinun was born in 1992 at Takadababa, during the days when Thai food was still a rarity in Tokyo. Now there are about 11 sister stores within the city, and the local chain is famous as a deliciously reasonable Thai restaurant. Starting with the tom yam ramen--a Tinun original--one can enjoy several types of Thai flavors, including curry and small dishes. Lunch gets rather crowded, so try to get there early!

  • Who: Myself and Girlfriends When: Friday Lunch Wear: Casual or Tourist-y Why: Friend's choice & who doesn't like Thai food? I passed this place the first time I looked for it. It is sort of lost in it's own advertisement and it is one of those restaurants where the signs are on the street while the restaurant itself is "Chika Ikai" or 1 floor down. I always like walking down into restaurants beca... Read More

  • I got a bowl of noodles (I think I ended up ordering Pad Thai, or at least something similar) and it was absolutely wonderful. It was delightfully spicy and seemed to be pretty authentically Thai food. I was really pleased with what I got, and the price of my bowl was really reasonable (under 1000Yen). Go if you have a craving for spicy Thai food.

  • Tinun Ikebukuro delivers predictable and slightly bland food in a nice room. The coconut milk chicken soup (tom ka gai -- 1050 yen) was filling, but inexplicably loaded with inedible lemongrass more than anything else(you shouldn't eat it!). The next dish, Gaiyan or Thai-style baked chicken (1050 yen) was dry and just not good. The chicken was overcooked and the accompanying salad was horrible. Th... Read More

  • I'm a picky eater (or drinker) when it comes to soups. I rarely order them, and when I do I'm generally disappointed-I prefer my food in the solid state better. Nonetheless, there are a few soups that I die for, and Tom Yam Kung is one of them. Luckily for me, that is the specialty at Tinun. Located literally a step away from the Omotesando station, Tinun is a Thai restaurant complete with a pa... Read More
