This tonkatsu restaurant is operated by Matsuya (you should know them for their gyudon). The clean, black interior is spacious and makes for a quiet, relaxing time. They used to use superior quality pork raised specially in England at higher price, but since Feb, 2008, they lowered price using the US 100% pork. Still, the quality is good. They have counter seating in addition to the standard tables, so you can feel comfortable dropping by alone or with friends.

  • Good Tonkatsu, reasonable price!! One of favorite restaurants I like to visit for lunch in Akasaka. A full Tonkatsu lunch can be enjoyed around 800yen. Crisp on the outside, very soft and tender on the inside. There used to be free refills for rice and miso soup, but the last time I visited it wasn't available. The curry smelled really good so maybe I'll try it next time. The atmosphere is ver... Read More

  • A lovely space. As a function of what you pay, you get a lot of value here. The restaurant is clean, modern and inviting, and the grub is of good quality. If you like "golden foods", you'll like this place. Recommended.

  • Reasonable quality for reasonable prices is my take on Matsunoya. You don’t come here for tonkatsu nirvana, but neither will you leave with an empty wallet. The food is fairly good considering that pretty much all sets cost under one thousand yen. I got the tonkatsu tonjiru set (980 yen), which included a piece of fried pork, the ubiquitous shredded cabbage that shows up everywhere at Japane... Read More

  • I wanted to try tonkatsu at least once in Japan, and Matsunoya was a good place for that maiden tasting. Tonkatsu is a good meal to have for lunch, because the normal proportion hits the spot quite nicely. At Matsunoya, you first receive a little bowl of sesame seeds and a pestle. The standard operating procedure here is to crush the sesame and add one of three dipping sauces. This is a delightful... Read More
