  • For meat lovers, Jojoen is a sweet sweet spot. The restaurant offers top-notch meat, and the grilling equipment is unbelievably good. One of the things that I usually don't like at yakiniku restaurants is that the grills are either too hot and burn the meat, or are otherwise not hot enough to caramelize the outside. Jojoen, however, clearly invested a fair amount of money to fit their tables with some top-of-the-line grills that deliver the exact temperature to achieve perfect results.

The interior is surprisingly luxurious considering the shabby outsides of the building. When the elevator opens its doors on the 7th floor, you will find a beautiful room flanked with bamboos on the sides, plenty of seating, a fairly big and well priced wine cellar (with an emphasis on Italian wine) and a harp in the middle of it that provides evening entertainment. Granted, leaving a harp in the middle of the room is tacky, and so are the numerous bamboos, but the room does feel inviting and spacious.

We ordered two sets for our meal. Set A (1800 yen) came with approximately ten slices of beef marinated in sauce, rice, soup, kimchi, pickles and a salad. Set B (2500 yen) came with a different cut of beef plus corn and two shrimps, the same rice, soup and kimchi, but also with an extra portion of Korean pickles.

In my opinion, the meat of set A was tastier, and the additional pickles and two shrimp are not worth the extra investment. Having said that, the meat of both sets was superb; tender, juicy and worth every yen. Jojoen definitely falls on the right side of the equation delivering a good combination of quality yakiniku, attentive service and a beautiful room.
