Tsukiji Hongan Ji

Tsukiji Honganji was originally built in 1617 at Asakusa, but burned down in a historical fire in 1679. It was also destroyed in the Great Kanto earthquake disaster of 1923. The current main building was completed in 1934. The exterior incorporates ancient Indian architechtures, whereas the interor reflects traditional Japanese Bhuddist designs. Being so close to the Tsukiji Fishmarket, it is definately worth a look when you're in that part of town!

  • Not very impressive, both inside and out. However, it's close to the Tsukiji fish market, so if you're already out after having gorged yourself on Sushi for breakfast, a nice walk towards the temple would be ideal.   • I stumbled upon this place when doing some early morning filming on the Yurikamome line. (It is far from the Yurikamome line btw.)
